About

Literacy is the right of each individual, regardless of religion, race, country, class, or gender.  Just as everyone has the right to breathe fresh air, everyone has the right to be literate.  Literacy provides access to knowledge of our environment, government, and with the right skills, better financial opportunities.  The inability to read equals the inability to fully participate in what life can offer.

Too many people, particularly in Third World countries, are illiterate.  In this day and age, with the advent of computer technology and the Internet, illiteracy only widens the gulf between those who live in poverty and those who do not.  This is cycle that perpetuates from one generation to the next.

Illiteracy is a serious disease that requires an immediate cure.  It leads to poverty which in turn leads to a host of illnesses, as well as social and political conflicts.  Millions and millions of people suffer in horrible conditions due to one heartbreaking reason: illiteracy.

Illiteracy is one of the worst plagues infecting our world, and yet, it is 100% curable.  We have set the goal of reducing the world illiteracy population by 1% each year.  With the world collectively working together to eradicate this problem only 1% each year, the world literacy rates can be 90% or better by the year 2050.

We believe that by petitioning the United Nations to declare illiteracy a disease we can break the cycle of illiteracy.  Poverty, hunger, political instability, high infant morality, poor health care for expectant mothers and more can be cured at the root cause of illiteracy.

Instead of just treating the symptoms through the short-term infusion of financial aid and food, the world must also engage in treating the disease itself.

Combating illiteracy is a preventative measure which leads to less hunger, less poverty, better health care, and less social conflict.

Please sign our petition to the United Nations and share this message.  Forward this to as many people as you know.  Post it to Facebook, Myspace, Craigslist, and other online forums.   Contact your political leaders.   Let’s work together and help each other.

We already see the results of inaction—civil strife, violence, high mortality rates, and general misunderstanding between peoples.

All we need from you is your signed U.N. petition.

Your support and generous donate will go a long way in making a real difference in million and millions of lives.
